Eddie Vedder Sings Happy Birthday To His Brothers At Montrose Harbor Party

Generous sponsors for Thursday’s Hot Stove Cool Music benefit concert at Metro, featuring Eddie Vedder, were treated to a second dose of the Pearl Jam singer Friday.

Vedder attended the outdoor sponsor party at Montrose Harbor’s Chicago Corinthian Yacht Club — which was rented out by one of the sponsors, Freedom Boat Club — and sang The Who’s “I Can’t Explain” and Bruce Springsteen’s “Rosalita” with local band Expo ’76.

“We messed up ‘Rosalita,’ but we had a good laugh about it later in the night,” said Expo ’76’s Dag Juhlin by email. “(Vedder) couldn’t have been a nicer guy.”

Vedder also brought his brothers Jason and Michael out to sing them happy birthday like only Eddie Vedder can. It was Michael’s birthday Friday and Jason’s birthday Saturday. Vedder (who had performed for about an hour at Hot Stove Cool Music) retreated to a private space on the dock after he was done singing and stayed there for hours, even after most had left the party.

Hot Stove Cool Music MC Joel Murray (“Mad Men”) sang as well at the intimate gathering by the lake and held his own, even though he joked it was the first time he sang since his youth choir days. Cubs play-by-play man Len Kasper made an appearance on the guitar during the party, just like he did the night before.

Also in attendance Friday: Fitz and the Tantrums singer Michael Fitzpatrick, who performed with his band at the Cubs-White Sox game at Wrigley Field earlier but oddly enough didn’t sing at Chicago Corinthian Yacht Club, Cubs president of baseball operations Theo Epstein, who co-hosts Hot Stove Cool Music on behalf of his Foundation to be Named Later, former Blackhawk and long time Vedder pal Chris Chelios and Cubs’ owner Tom Ricketts.

Organizers said Hot Stove Cool Music raised over $300,000 for Foundation to be Named Later, which benefits urban youth and families.
