See, you’re not the only one with questions. Remember, there is no such thing as a dumb question; ok, sure there is, but here are some of the frequently asked questions we get at Freedom Boat Club Chicago, and none of them are dumb. We hope our answers aren’t either.

Q - I am interested in adding my son/daughter as a skipper, how old do they need to be?

A - Skippers need to be 21 years of age.

Q - I have used all of my rolling reservations, can I still reserve a boat at a reciprocal club?

A - Yes, reciprocal reservations do not count towards your home club rolling reservations.

Q - I have 2 skippers on my membership, can we reserve 2 boats at the same time?

A - A membership can only have one boat reserved at a time at the home club. You can have a reservation in Chicago and one at a reciprocal club at the same time.

Q - How much do you charge us to fuel the boats?

A - We charge you the pump price at the Belmont Harbor gas dock. We do not mark up or add a surcharge for fueling the boats.

Q - Is it customary to tip the dock staff?

A - Tipping is totally up to you. Most do tip if the staff does a good job. Tips range from $5-$20 and occasionally more. Tipping is reserved for the dock attendants, our dock manager and club manager cannot accept tips.

Q - How does our membership at Chicago Corinthian Yacht Club work?

A - If you have elected to become a CCYC member we hope you enjoy the club. Please remember this is a 100% volunteer club so we are all responsible for cleaning up after ourselves. If you are not a member and are interested in joining please let me know.

Q - Can I reserve the Captains Quarters party dock and a boat at the same time?

A - Yes you can. This request must be put in through the office so please send me an email if you are interested in reserving the dock when you have a boat.

Q - Can I use the other FBC locations and how much does it cost?

A - You can use EACH of the 89 other clubs up to 4 times a year. There is no additional fee associated with this use, you just pay for your fuel.

Q - I see all boats are booked on Saturday, can I call the dock to see if they become available?

A - Yes you can but the best way to make sure you get a chance to grab a boat if someone cancels is by putting yourself on the wait list. If you use the wait list you do not need to click on each boat separately, wait list yourself for all boats to give yourself the best chance to use a boat if one becomes available.

Q - What times are the reservation slots?

A - Morning reservations are from 8 AM - 1:30 PM. Afternoon reservations are from 2:30 PM - 8 PM. On evenings when Navy Pier has fireworks, which is from June - September 5th on Wednesdays and Saturdays, you can utilize a third reservation slot for the day. It runs from 8:30 pm until 30 minutes after the fireworks end.

Q - When coming back into the dock should I call the office?

A - Yes, call 847-561-7777 and alert them that you are on your way back. Please do not call any staff members cell phone for this, the dock attendants will always keep the phone nearby.

Q - What if I inadvertently damage a boat? Am I responsible for the repair?

A - Members are responsible for the boats and equipment when they are checked out in their name.

Q - Why are there some days where I cannot go out on a boat due to weather?

A - Some days when the wind and waves are making it dangerous to boat we will restrict the boats from going out. This is not something we take lightly and we make sure we consult several weather sources including the marine forecast and make personal observations before doing so. These decisions are made to ensure your safety. It is always a good idea to give the office a call at 847-561-7777 before heading down for a reservation to check on current conditions.
