Perdido Key
Pensacola, FL

Welcome to Freedom Boat Club of Perdido Key:

Casual, Relaxed & Rich

European explorers settled Perido Key in search of gold and other riches. What they found instead was a wealth of unspoiled beaches, bayous, and wetlands. The same ones that continue to keep visitors coming back to the area today.

Located on one of the barrier islands protecting the Florida mainland, the Perdido Key location sits among white sand beaches and rolling dunes covered in sea oats, making it a favorite destination for swimmers, sunbathers and boaters.

This is a place famous for its casual and relaxed atmosphere where boaters can kick back and enjoy everything from cruising the coastline to watching the many shorebirds and other wildlife that call this island home.

Whether it s entering the numerous annual fishing tournaments, watching the Blue Angels Air Shows, marveling at the infamous Interstate Mullet Toss and Beach Party (held every April) or dining at the Famous Flora-Bama Restaurant and Lounge, Perdido Key offers a rich boating experience.

We Are Now Offering Hands-On Powerboat Training

Freedom Boat club in partnership with the Recreational Power Boat Association (RPBA) are offering hands on boat training.  This is a great way to improve you skills and confidence on the water. We can teach on our boats or yours.

The goal of Power Boating Made Easy is to increase boating safety and enjoyment by improving boaters’ nautical knowledge, practical skills and confidence. This program is taught by RPBA certified instructors. Upon successful completion of the program, participants will have learned the information and skills required to safely operate a powerboat in local, waters during daylight hours in good  conditions.   This class is great for new boaters.

Advanced Docking and Close Quarter Powerboat Handling (6 hours)

If you have been boating for a while and want to improve your skills, this is an outstanding opportunity.  RPBA certified instructors will teach the precision boat handling skills required to operate in close quarters and strong winds and currents.

Big Lagoon State Park

This coastal park sits on the northern shoreline of its namesake, Big Lagoon, which separates the mainland from Perdido Key and the Gulf of Mexico. Natural communities, ranging from saltwater marshes to pine flatwoods, attract a wide variety of birds, especially during the spring and fall migrations. Beaches, shallow bays, nature trails, and open woodlands offer splendid opportunities for nature study. The park also beckons visitors with opportunities for camping, swimming, fishing, boating, canoeing, and hiking. Crabbing in the shallow waters of Big Lagoon is a popular activity as well. The West Beach picnic area, shaded by pines and oaks, is just the place to enjoy a relaxing meal. Located on County Road 292A, 10 miles southwest of Pensacola.

Fort McRee

Of the three forts that once protected Pensacola, Forts Pickens and Barrancas were preserved first through continued use and later as historic sites. However, due to its location on a site accessible only by foot or boat, Fort McRee was left to the elements. Storms and erosion took their toll on the site. Today, nothing more than a few scattered foundations remain.

Park Service, it is open to anyone visiting Gulf Islands National Seashore. However, the area is remote and no visitor facilities of any kind exist. Additionally, the use of metal detectors is prohibited and any artifacts found are not to be removed from the site.
