Welcome to Freedom Boat Club of Catawba Island!
Founded in 1861, Catawba Island is home to more than 3,100 people, but many more visit each year. Renowned for its natural beauty, Catawba Island is nestled into a quiet section of the Western Basin of Lake Erie only an hour's drive from Cleveland and Toledo and a two-hour trip from Columbus or Detroit.
NW Catawba Marina is a perfect setting for day boating. Located off of Catawba Road; it features many great amenities such as gas dock, restrooms, showers, and pool. The first-rate marina gives you direct access to Lake Erie so you can spend more time with your family boating.
Put-in-Bay on South Bass Island is often referred to as the "Key West of the Great Lakes." The summer vacation hot spot offers an exciting nightlife with live musical entertainment to satisfy all generations. Strolling barbershop singers, bagpipers, steel drums and Ohio's best entertainers are frequently seen on the island.
Picturesque Catawba Island gives you many boating options. Take a trip out to Put-in-Bay for a quick lunch or cruise over to Kelly's Island. Both of these are less than a 30 min boat ride. Miles of beautiful shorelines, great fishing, nature reserves and state parks make Catawba Island a summertime paradise for many in Ohio's North Coast region and beyond.
Boating Requirements
Anyone born on or after January 1, 1982 who operates a powerboat greater than 10 horsepower must complete an approved boating course or pass an abbreviated exam with a score of 90% or better.
