This amazing destination benefits from the popularity of the world-class amusement park, Cedar Point, and is more recently known as being Ohio's waterpark capital and the gateway to the Lake Erie Islands. In season, ferries and island-hopping cruises depart from downtown daily. Flooded with numerous attractions and entertainment options, Sandusky surprises with its beautiful parks, downtown architecture and wealth of history, including its role in the Underground Railroad passage to freedom. Lyman Harbor is the iconic setting for a day of boating on Sandusky Bay and Lake Erie. Beginning in 1928, Lyman Harbor was home to the original Lyman Boat Works, the famed maker of the handcrafted mahogany Lyman Boat. By 1937, production was between 500-600 boats. At that time Lyman's could be found all over the world including Germany, South Africa, Italy, Indo-China, and English. The largest production year for Lyman was 1958 with 5,000 boats builit in it's 50,000 square foot plant in Sandusky, Ohio.
The Lyman complex, in the heart of Sandusky Bay, has been converted into a public entertainment complex hosting some of the region's best entertainment all summer long. Lyman Harbor also has a full service restaurant and a casual pub that can fit any taste.
Boating Requirements
Anyone born on or after January 1, 1982 who operates a powerboat greater than 10 horsepower must complete an approved boating course or pass an abbreviated exam with a score of 90% or better.
