St. Augustine
St. Augustine, FL

Welcome to the Freedom Boat Club of St. Augustine! The nation's oldest city and first seaport, St. Augustine has been linked to the sea for nearly 450 years. A truly historic destination for boaters, it was recently selected by ABC's "Good Morning America" as the city where Americans can most feel as though they are in Europe. Blue water boaters can access the city through St. Augustine inlet and proceed to the City Marina or the private Camachee Cove Marina, or you can anchor out in the shadow of the Castillo de San Marcos, the Spanish fortress built in 1672. These marinas, as well as several on the San Sebastian River, provide full service stops for boats traveling the Intercoastal Waterway.

St. Augustine's 144-square block historic district begins at the City Marina and more than 30 buildings on the National Register of Historic Places are within easy walking distance, as are more than a dozen distinctive restaurants offering everything from local seafood to upscale Spanish cuisine. Historic, narrated tours of the harbor are available from St. Sightseeing Cruises and sunset sails aboard the Schooner Freedom are popular attractions. Both depart from the City Marina. Also based here is St. Augustine Eco-Tours providing an up-close and fascinating look at the local marine environment.

Boating Requirements

Effective October 1, 2001, a person 21 years of age or younger may not operate a vessel powered by a motor of 10 horsepower or greater unless such person has in his or her possession aboard the vessel photographic identification and a boater safety identification. From boats, bridges, shore or surf, there are plenty of opportunities to catch the big ones. But you will need a fishing license. Call the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission at (888) 347-4356 for details and fees. All licenses are available from the county tax collectors offices and sub-agents located at tackle shops, fish camps, hardware stores and sporting goods stores.

At 18'10", the Hurricane SunDeck Sport 188 from Nautic Global Group is about the same length as the average runabout, but with it's 8' 5" beam carried well forward, it can easily seat 10. The Hurricane SS-188 has swim platform with a three-step boarding ladder and covered anchor locker on the bow to keep swimmers away from the prop. Other beach treats are the fiberglass liner and port console.  The port console offers several amenities including a comfortable backrest for a forward passengers, cup holders, and a convenient storage compartment for the little things that always get misplaced like cell phones and sun screen.

Hit the gas and the Hurricane SunDeck Sport 188 OB will move. Yamaha says a 150-hp outboard will push the boat to a comfortable 42 mph, and there's plenty of pull for skiing with the optional tow bar.

Guana River State Park

The Guana River State Park is officially designated as part of Florida's Statewide System of Greenways and Trails. A 1592 account by a Spanish historian has led present day historians to believe that Guana River was the site of Ponce de Leon's first landing in Florida. Its precise location is unknown. Nonetheless, this park offers history, beautiful coastal ecosytems and pleasurable trail experiences. Only a few miles from St. Augustine, the park also provides great Atlantic Ocean swimming and surf fishing as well as some freshwater lake fishing. The unpaved trails are excellent and are enjoyed by all levels of riders and hikers.

Freedom is Paradise

Harry Abram

I have been thrilled with our membership. We have had a blast tubing in the St John' last summer and look forward to this summer.
It's been a great experience for our family. Truly all of the great things about boating but none of the hassles. FBC has lived up to every end of the agreement. We took out a nice family boat in Ft. Myers franchise this past week and it was an equally great experience. It only cost gas and a gratuity!

Please feel free to offer my name as a reference.

Joe Moorhouse

NEW MEMBER STORY:
He joined on Sunday, trained on Monday, took has family out at Julington Creek on Tuesday and then he went out on a boat in Palm Beach on Thursday.

Thank you for arranging the boat for us at Palm Beach on Thursday. My son and I took the boat a short distance to Peanut Island and snorkeled at the man-made reefs. We saw all kinds of fish and he kept saying "this is awesome... Dad look at this... look at this." We also met a nice couple for Ponte Vedra who belong to our club and were using a boat in Palm Beach as well on Thursday. I already appreciate how nice the boats are in Jax.

Scott Snyder

When I first joined, I kept thinking, I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop, it never does. When we moved to Jacksonville from Tampa, we joined for a worry-free boating experience. Nobody told us about the friends we'd meet or the fun we'd have both on and off the water.

Tom Farrell

Boating to the Jaguars game was one of the neatest experiences we've had so far in Jax. Freedom Boat Club is a great club and these forays are a fun event. Had a great experience at the Destin club today. You guys - and this program - ROCKS!
