SARATOGA SPRINGS >> Spa City residents Matt and Rebecca O’Hara are the owners of a new Freedom Boat Club franchise on Lake George.

Freedom Boat Club is a private membership boating club with nearly 100 locations in 19 states coast to coast. It is the world’s oldest and largest boat club with more than 10,000 members.

The Lake George franchise, at Beckley’s Marina in Diamond Point, will have new name-brand boats including bowriders, deckboats and pontoons. Memberships covers the cost of cleaning, storage, maintenance and insurance.

Members will have free classroom and on-water training and upon course completion, have direct access to the club’s online reservation system. Members can confirm four rolling advance reservations, selecting the boat, date and time.

Membership also gives people access to other Freedom Boat Clubs throughout the country.

Previously, Matt O’Hara was sales manager for CBS Television in the Boston Market. Rebecca, who grew up in the Lake George area, most recently worked in development and fundraising at Massachusetts General Hospital. The twosome, both avid boaters, observed the growth and popularity of the Freedom Boat Club franchise in the Massachusetts market and envisioned the potential for success on Lake George.

“This proven boat-sharing model allows us to provide an exciting and affordable new opportunity for area boating enthusiasts, while minimizing the impact on lake traffic,” Matt said in a press release.

“We look forward to becoming actively engaged in the Lake George community and hosting a variety of social events and activities for our members,” Rebecca O’Hara said. “While the first boats won’t become operational until spring, we are readily available to share club information with those who might have interest in learning more.”
