Panama City Beach’s Freedom Boat Club is located at the Lighthouse Marina.

It’s the oldest and largest private boat club with 10,000 members who have access to 800 boats in more than 100 cities around the country.

“It’s hassle free boating,” Captain Brian Gwinnup, the Training Manager, said. “We take of your insurance, your maintenance, your storage, your cleaning. All you do is come out and enjoy time on the water.”

Representatives also call it a “simple and affordable alternative to boat ownership.”

Even before Friday afternoon’s ceremony, safety has always been a top priority for the large boat club.

Staff provide extensive training for members before they even leave the dock.

Members have two hours of training in a classroom and two more hours of training on the water.

“We also put them through two hours of on the water training so they became familiar boat and become familiar with the water markers,” Robert Holmes, the Membership Director, said. They [can] have a safe boating experience.”

“I make sure all of the safety equipment is in place for all the members going out that day,” Matthew Mueller, the Dock Manager, said. “I make sure all the coast guard required equipment is there: life jackets, fire extinguishers, everything they need to make sure it’s a safe day on the water.”

If you’re interested in becoming a member, call their office at (850) 588-0584.
