SANDUSKY — The Freedom Boat Club of Catawba and Huron recently teamed up with Big Brothers Big Sisters and offered a unique sailing opportunity.

Earlier this month, group members hosted the All Aboard for the Littles event. About 35 people, including those from the local Big Brothers Big Sisters organization, including “littles” or children matched with adult volunteers, partook in the sailing adventure on local waterways.

Littles and mentors received free boat rides, safety lessons — including how to use life jackets — and learned what to do if they were stranded in the middle of the lake. Littles were also given goody bags. A lunch of hamburgers and hot dogs was provided for everyone.

The boat club is hosting a fundraiser for a sunset cruise on one of its boats. The boat club is selling raffle tickets, which people can still buy up until May 29. A winner will be drawn May 30. You do not need to be present to win.

The winner can bring up to three friends on the cruise. A captain will be provided for inexperienced boaters. For passengers 21 and over, adult beverages and appetizers will be served.

People can buy one ticket for $10 or three for $20. To purchase tickets, call Big Brothers Big Sisters at 419-626-8694. All proceeds go to Big Brothers Big Sisters.

“It’s a great deal,” said Annette Ferrell, executive director of Big Brothers Big Sisters. “It’s a lot easier if someone wants to come out for a few hours, but doesn’t want to buy a boat.”
